This program is designed for adults who wish to learn or improve their hockey abilities. Instructors teach basic skills and fundamental drills, often with technical breakdowns and question/answer periods.

The practice time is divided in half. The first half is instruction and the second half is a 3-on-3 game.

This beginner class will introduce skaters to the basics of skating including falling down & getting up, moving forward on the ice, gliding and stopping.

More advanced skaters will learn power starts, crossovers, moving backwards, turns and side stops, as well as work on increasing speed.

The adult Learn to Skate class is not offered in the spring. The class will return in the fall. Stay tuned!

Frequently Asked Questions

All participants must have a proper helmet (e.g. hockey or ski-style) with full cage or visor to protect the face, skates with adequate support in the ankles, and for hockey classes, full hockey equipment including jock/jill strap.

No, we do not provide equipment. All participants will be required to purchase their own equipment.

If you are looking for gently-used secondhand equipment, we recommend Play It Again Sports on St-Charles Boulevard.

Unfortunately, any participant without the proper equipment will not be allowed onto the ice for their class out of concern for their safety. No make-up classes or refunds will be provided for classes missed due to inappropriate equipment.

Spectators may watch classes from the hallway or from the gallery on the second floor. Spectators are not permitted inside the rink where the class is taking place, because of space constraints. (Plus, it’s much warmer upstairs!)

We would be happy to help! Please email Sean at stilley@excellentice-kirkland.com for more information about our adult classes, or you can call us at 514-695-4368.

Yes! Our skating and hockey classes are open to all.

While we do not have permanently dedicated dressing rooms, we can arrange for a separate room if needed for our hockey classes.

We do not offer make-up classes, credits or refunds for missed classes once the season has started.

Since we have different class levels, our instructors are able to assess and move players to other classes if they feel it is appropriate, space permitting. (If classes are full, players may be placed on a waitlist.)

We recommend placing your name on the waiting list for the class you want if it’s full, which you can also do online! If a spot opens up, we will notify you by email.
