Children learn how to skate at Excellent Ice Kirkland

Safety first on the ice!

We wish to remind our customers that all skaters in our youth classes must wear a helmet designed for on-ice sports with full face protection to participate in our classes. No skater will be permitted onto the ice with inadequate safety equipment.

Helmets must be equipped with a cage or clear visor that covers the entire face, down to the chin. Half-visors are not suitable. Bike helmets and street hockey helmets are not acceptable for on-ice activities.

We also would like to remind parents that we strongly advise against plastic skates. (These typically have cartoon characters and buckles and may have adjustable sizing.) These skates never fit properly, and often break easily. They prevent skaters from bending their knees properly and are usually uncomfortable.

We suggest you avoid skates that are made of moulded plastic, rely on buckles to adjust fit, and are adjustable to many sizes. Instead, look for hockey, figure or recreational skates with strong ankle support that fit to the skater’s current foot size. To find out more about equipment for our classes, read our guide!

Hockey helmets are required for all adult classes as well. Face protection is strongly recommended to prevent injury.
